BRHS girls tennis holds awards night

The 2024 Boothbay Region High School girls tennis team held its awards night on the court at BRHS June 11.

Coach Alex Arsenault presented awards, certificates and Mountain Valley Conference honors to his players.

Plaques were awarded junior Ivory Cody, Coach’s Award; sophomore Hannah Kreft, Most Improved Player; and junior Laura Chapman, Most Valuable Player.

For the third straight year, Chapman was named MVC Player of the Year and was voted a first-team all-star by the league’s coaches. In three years of play, she has not lost an MVC match.

Hanna Kreft and senior Sarah Kreft received honorable mention as MVC all stars. Sarah Kreft was also on the MVC’s all-academic team.

Besides the aforementioned players, other team members included junior Sawyer Blake, and sophomores Abby Orchard and Maddie Andreasen.

The Seahawks finished the season at 8-4 overall. After upsetting Maine Central Institute in the quarterfinals of the Maine Principals’ Association Class C South tournament, where Boothbay was seeded sixth and MCI third, the season ended with a semifinal loss to Waynflete in Portland June 5.
