Bridge on Donegal beach pictured by Taylor Swift during visit to county restored
The superstar posted black and white images of herself on the stunning Portsalon Beach, on the Fanad Peninsula in County Donegal, and in the background, the well known footbridge can be clearly seen.
Eagle eye fans quickly recognised the footbridge and were quick to speculate that Taylor Swift had arrived in Donegal via helicopter for a quick visit during a heatwave.
At the time, Donegal Tourism said, “Taylor Swift has shared some lovely moments enjoying Magherawarden Beach, Portsalon.
“We hope you had a wonderful time in Donegal.”
However, in recent years, the footbridge had been out of action but has since been restored to its former glory.
Cllr Liam Blaney confirmed that the bridge has been reinstalled at the beach and is now open for use.
“I was glad to be in a position to draw down funding of €7,500 for the installation of this bridge over the river at Portsalon Beach, Fanad.
“This will ensure a safer pathway for those wishing to walk the beach, and just in time for the Summer season.
“Thank you to those who helped with achieving this.”
At the time, the singer posted the images at the beach to tell fans that she was releasing a new song to celebrate the one year anniversary of her popular album Folklore.
“It’s been one year since we escaped the real world together and imagined ourselves someplace simpler.
“With tall tall trees and salt air.
“Where you’re allowed to wear lace nightgowns that make you look like a Victorian ghost every day and no one will side eye you cause no one is around.
“It’s just you and your imaginary cabin and the stories you make up to pass the time.
“To say thank you for all you have done to make this album what it was, I wanted to give you the original version of The Lakes.
“Happy 1 year anniversary to Rebekah, Betty, Inez, James, Augustine, and the lives we all created around them.
“Happy Anniversary, folklore.”
The superstar has previously visited numerous places in Ireland and Swift is performing three shows at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium next weekend as part of her Eras world tour.
This week, it was revealed the Pennsylvania-born singer-songwriter’s great-great-great grandparents emigrated to America from Derry in 1836.
On the back of the discovery, Derry’s mayor invited Taylor Swift to visit and trace her roots.
Cllr Lilian Seenoi Barr has written a letter to the musician, urging her to come to Derry during her visit to Ireland next weekend.
