Budget furniture chain Jysk requests planning for new Cork city store
Danish furniture retailer Jysk is eyeing further expansion here in Cork with the company lodging plans for its fourth store with Cork City Council last week.
The planning application has been lodged for the development of a unit in the Blackpool Retail Park and was received by the council on July 4. The application requested permission to change existing storage and office areas into retail spaces, the installation of stairs and a platform left as well as air conditioning.
The application is still in the early stages with a decision expected by August 28 and if it’s successful the new store will bring a number of jobs to the Blackpool area.
When the Danish retailer opened its store in Ballincollig it created 15 new jobs for locals and it’s likely the Blackpool development would bring a similar number.

The chain already has stores in Ballincollig, Youghal and Little Island with queues out the door each opening day. At the most recent grand opening in Ballincollig, queues were stretching across the car park as residents lined up to grab a bargain.
JYSK is an international chain of stores with roots in Denmark that sells a wide range of items for the home. The first store opened in Denmark in 1979, and today JYSK has more than 3,300 stores and 28,000 employees in 48 countries. JYSK is part of Lars Larsen Group, a family-owned company founded by the Danish tradesman Lars Larsen.
