Calcutta Run Golf Classic

The Law Society is once again hosting a golf tournament as part of the Calcutta Run fundraising effort in Castleknock Golf Club on Friday 17 May.

The format will again be a four-person ‘texas scramble’ competition, with an entry fee of €700 per four person team (includes BBQ after round).

We would like to ensure there is as much diversity of participation as possible in this event. In particular we would like all teams to ensure there is at least one female golfer per team if possible. Scoring advantages apply to teams with female golfers (see below).

This event will be a great opportunity to bring your team, your colleagues, your clients or your friends for a fun day out and help raise money for two great charities!

For bookings and further information please contact calcuttarungolf@gmail.com.

Competition Format

Tee times are available from 8.30am to 5pm on Friday 17 May 2024 (10 minute intervals).

The format is a ‘Texas Scramble’ which involves the following:

  • 4 golfers per team.

  • A GUI handicap is not essential (we will assign you a handicap for the day if needed)

  • All golfers on the team tee off on each hole.

  • The team can select the best of the 4 shots for the position for the next shot.

  • The process is repeated until one team member sinks the ball, so the team as a single strokes play score on each hole.

  • It will be necessary to use at least 2 tee shots for each team member over the course of the round.

  • Handicaps – the handicaps for the teams will be calculated as follows:

    • Add the handicaps of all team members together and divide by 10% (for all male teams) or 15% (for teams including at least one female golfer).

    • For the purpose of the above calculation, the maximum handicap for men is 21 and the maximum handicap for women is 28.

    • If you do not have an official Golf Ireland handicap the team captain can assign handicaps for the purpose of the above calculation (subject to the above caps).

    • If you have an official Golf Ireland handicap, you can use your playing handicap for Castleknock Golf Course for the purpose of the above calculation.

Food options

The entry fee will include a BBQ at the Golf Club for your team directly after your round.

Castleknock Golf Club has a state of the art Clubhouse including a full bar and restaurant. You are also welcome to make your own bookings for a more formal sit down meal later in the evening also – see details on the Castleknock Golf Club website.
