Care jobs available in Cornwall are paying more than you’d expect

If you’re someone who likes making sure people who need additional support get the best out of life, then a job in care could be for you. All across Cornwall, we hear of tales of bed-blocking patients stuck in hospital because there are no care packages in place for them.

Care homes in the Duchy have also been struggling to recruit staff due to low pay. But working as a carer can be a very rewarding role and many employers offer on the job training for those wanting to progress in the field.

Care assistant – Sanctuary Care

Location: Falmouth

Description: As a care assistant at Trevern Care Home, you will work as a team with other carers to enrich residents’ lives, and get stuck into leisure and social activities. Experience is not essential, as we will support you with all the training and support you’ll need to do the job, what is important is that you are caring, enthusiastic and have energy to share.

Location: St Austell

Description: In this role, you will need to provide personal care and assistance to clients in their homes or assisted living facilities, assist with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, administering medications as prescribed by healthcare professionals when trained to do so, preparing meals and assist with feeding when necessary, light housekeeping tasks, such as cleaning and laundry, and providing companionship and engage in meaningful activities with clients.

Activities organiser – Westheath Care Homes

Location: Lanivet

Description: As the activities organiser at Clann House, you will need to: engage, stimulate and assist the residents, organise activities that are tailored to the needs and abilities of individuals as well as group activities that will bring individuals together, and liaise and consult with staff and relatives regarding the care of residents and particular activities that may be beneficial and stimulating.

Description: Your main duties will include: plan and initiate group/individual programmes and encourage residents’ to maintain pre-existing hobbies, on occasions, help residents’ with dressing, encourage residents’ to help select their meals through a picture menu as part of activities of daily living, encourage staff members, relatives and friends to participate in the homes activities, and accompany residents’ where possible, to off site activities, which may occasionally take place outside of normal working hours.
