Caroline Wozniacki and Naomi Osaka secure Paris 2024 Olympic spots in potential blow to Emma Raducanu – Eurosport

Caroline Wozniacki and Naomi Osaka have both been confirmed to play at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, leaving Great Britain’s Emma Raducanu potentially without a place.

It will be a fourth Olympic appearance for Denmark’s Wozniacki, who returned to the tour last summer following three-and-a-half years in retirement.

Wozniacki’s best Olympic result is making the quarter-finals at London 2012.

“Today I officially qualified for my 4th Olympics!!!” wrote Wozniacki on social media.

“Paris 2024, see you there!!!”

The 33-year-old, who has a 7-7 win-loss record on the WTA Tour this season, qualified for the Games as a former Grand Slam winner.

There are two spots reserved in the men’s and women’s singles draws for Grand Slam champions who didn’t qualify through their ranking or other criteria.

The Japan Tennis Association also confirmed that four-time Grand Slam winner Osaka has secured a spot at the Games, but it is not clear if she has qualified via the same route as Wozniacki or used her protected ranking.

If Osaka has qualified as a former Grand Slam winner that means there wouldn’t be an option left for Great Britain’s Raducanu to qualify for the Games.

If Osaka has used her protected ranking to qualify then Raducanu could potentially still secure a place as a former Grand Slam champion.

Kei Nishikori will also play for Japan using his protected ranking.

The singles events at the Games are 64-player draws and a maximum of four players from one country can enter each draw.

The ATP and WTA rankings on June 10 (the day after the French Open finished) were used as the cut-off point to determine which players get direct entry into the main draws.

The tennis event at the Games runs from July 27 to August 4 and will be held at Roland-Garros, the home of the French Open.
