Cat Deeley reveals Patrick Kielty ‘didn’t know symptoms’ of shock illness he has

THIS Morning host Cat Deeley revealed that she and husband Patrick Kielty “didn’t know what the symptoms were” as he is suffering from an illness.

The couple married in a private ceremony in Italy back in 2012 and have two children together, Miles, eight, and James, six.

The TV host spoke candidly about her husband’s illness to her This Morning co-host Ben Shepard yesterday.

Dr Kayat appeared on the show where she and the 47-year-old spoke about shingles.

The doctor revealed that one in three adults suffer from the viral infection in their lifetime.

Cat revealed that her husband, the Late Late Show host, Patrick Kielty currently has the virus.

The mother-of-two explained that it was difficult to diagnose at first: “So, my husband’s got it, at the moment and he didn’t know what the symptoms were.

“Or, he didn’t spot them. He actually thought he’d got fibreglass in his face.”

The popular presenter explained that Patrick had been moving furniture in their house that is currently under construction.

She added: “He thought he’d touched his face. Because he got like this burning, tingling, stinging sensation.”

Dr Kayat explained the symptoms of shingles for viewers: “Firstly you tend to get this tingly, burning sensation.

“You may also notice you’re feeling more fatigued – you’ve got a headache, you’re tired. You might even have a bit of a temperature.

“A few days later you can start to develop a blotchy rash and then that develops into fluid-filled blisters, which start to crust over and scab away.”

Cat added: “They can be on the trunk of your body. [Patrick] has got them on his face, actually!”

Meanwhile, next month, Patrick Kilety is set to receive an honorary doctorate from Ulster University alongside Mary Robinson.

Both Kielty and Ms Robinson are amongst the seven people set to receive the top honour from Ulster University.

The honorary doctorates will be given out during the summer graduation’s which will take place from July 1 to 9 in Belfast, Coleraine and Derry.

Speaking on the honorary awards, Ulster University Vice Chancellor, Professor Paul Bartholomew said: “It is a joy to celebrate the work of those inspirational and acclaimed local faces already making a global impact, and we are thrilled to bestow these honorary doctorates.

“These individuals are leaders in their fields and demonstrate great talent, creativity and integrity.”

Kielty studied Psychology at Queen’s University Belfast from 1989 to 1992.

The 53-year-old began his entertainment career more than three decades ago and took helm of RTE’s flagship The Late Late show in September 2023.
