Cherry Cricket expanding north to this city

DENVER (KDVR) — A Denver-based burger joint is heading north and opening its fourth location in Broomfield.

The Cherry Cricket is expanding and will open at 1280 E. 1st Ave. in Broomfield in the summer of 2025.

According to the restaurant, the Broomfield location will be where the former Old Chicago restaurant was and will occupy 8,500 square feet of space. There will also be a covered patio and “Burger Garden” which can seat more than 300 guests.

“We searched extensively across the Denver metro area for the ideal location for our next Cherry Cricket, and we fell in love with Broomfield’s strong sense of community,” said Alex Bunn, CMO and VP of growth for Breckenridge-Wynkoop, LLC.

The Cherry Cricket said the Broomfield location will also create 150 new jobs.

“We’re thrilled to welcome The Cherry Cricket to Broomfield,” said Broomfield’s Mayor Guyleen Castriotta. “Over the past eight decades, it has become one of Colorado’s most iconic and beloved restaurant brands, and for good reason. We look forward to it becoming an integral part of our fast-growing and dynamic community. Nothing goes together better than the three B’s – burgers, beers and Broomfield.”

The local joint has been serving Denverites since 1945 with three other locations — one in Denver’s Ballpark neighborhood, one in Cherry Creek and recently one in that opened in Littleton in 2023.

In 2000, ownership of The Cherry Cricket was passed to Wynkoop, the company established by former Colorado governor and current U.S. Sen. John Hickenlooper, according to the restaurant.

The Cherry Cricket has not said when the Broomfield location will officially open, but it said fans can stay up to date by signing up for the restaurant’s newsletters.
