Chris Russo rips Stephen A. Smith’s NBA Finals entrances for ESPN: ‘Dumbest thing’

Chris “Mad Dog” Russo ribbed Stephen A. Smith over his entrance videos during the NBA Finals.

Several times during the series between the Celtics and Mavericks, ESPN’s social media team shared videos of Smith strutting into the arena like it does with players.

During his weekly “First Take” appearance on Wednesday, Russo let Smith have it over the clips.

“This is ridiculous. He thinks he’s playing [in the games],” Russo said.

“How about him walking into Game 4 with the Celtics on Sunday night in Dallas. Steve, this is stupid. You’ve got a guy behind you, you’ve got the cameras, what do you think you’re gonna score 36 this night with the sunglasses?

“I mean this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. How about going to a ballgame with a T-shirt on and a pair of shorts, sitting in the upper deck, and having a beer with the fellas? Why are you doing this?! Look at this! This is laughable. We know you’re a star, Steve, you don’t need to show off.”

Smith, who donned a light pink and purple suit for Game 4, was undeterred.

“Is that your way of saying the suit was pretty fly?” he asked.

Host Molly Qerim interjected, “It was a great suit. You did look good. I almost texted you, but then I was like I don’t want to be that nice. But the fact that [Russo] just said, ‘What do you think you’re gonna score 36’ is freaking hilarious! Because he walks out like he’s LeBron. He’s got the irrational confidence and that’s what makes him Stephen A.”

Smith, who was part of ESPN’s Finals coverage, told Qerim that the confidence is not irrational and Russo that he “doesn’t ask for this” and ESPN chose to follow him with a camera crew and share it across social media.
