Clare Voter Turnout Slower Than Usual For Local And European Elections – Clare FM

Voter turnout in Clare is reported to be slower than usual in this years local and European Elections.

Polling stations have been open for six hours at this point, with the vast bulk of this county’s voters yet to cast their ballot.

There are seven seats to be filled in Ennis, where approximately 24,226 people are eligible to vote.

So far, 15% of registered electors have cast their ballot at polling stations in Drumbiggle and Clarecastle.

In Shannon, there are also seven seats to be filled and the fate of candidates there lies in the hands of 23,726 registered voters.

So far across the district an average 7% of voters have made their way through polling stations in the region, which is reported to be lower than previous years.

Over 18,000 are eligible to vote in West Clare, and so far across polling stations in Bansha and Kilkee, just 10% have cast their ballot.

Kilkee resident Manuel De Lucia is hopeful activity will ramp up by close of business at 10 tonight and says people who don’t vote don’t have a say.

4 seats are up for grabs in the Ennistymon Electoral Area, which stretches from Inagh to Kilfenora and has just over 15,000 local government electors.

In Ennistymon, turnout is reported to be over 13% this lunchtime.

In East Clare approximately 17,151 people will decide the next five councillors to represent the region.

In Quin activity is reported to be unusually quiet for a local election, where so far just 10% of voters have cast a ballot.

While O’Callaghans Mills has also received just 10% of its eligible electorate so far.

Clare ICMSA Chair and O’Callaghans Mills resident Martin McMahon says its vital people come out and vote as elections cannot be replayed.
