Cllr Ben Brennan dedicates election win to family and friends

RETURNING councillor Ben Brennan dedicated the win of his council seat to his family and friends.

For the fourth consecutive local election on 1,666 votes at 11.40pm on Saturday night he had to wait for the returning officer Donal Brennan to declare him elected.

“I feel grand,” he said just minutes after being hoisted shoulder-high by family members and supporters.

“The hard work paid off,” he said.

“It was a long night, but it was worth waiting for. I thought I was going to get in earlier, but it didn’t work out that way and the votes didn’t come my way. I’m glad to get in anyway. I got plenty of transfers. I was kind of expecting them when I looked at the tally. I knew they were coming my way and the way it was going to happen.”

Cllr Brennan said: “I dedicate this seat to my family and friends. They worked hard and never stopped working for me. Without them I could never had done it.”
