Closed Galway pub ‘renovation’ photo sparks reopening rumours
A closed Galway pub has sparked reopening rumours as a photo shows the beloved bar appearing to be undergoing a renovation.
Much loved and much-missed bar Caribou could be reopening its doors in Galway, albeit under a different name, as new owners have reportedly taken it over with plans to rename it.
A photo pf the now-closed gem shows that there seems to be redecorating going on within its walls.

The photo was shared in a post on social media that read: “Renovation in caribou? Something going in here maybe or has it always been like that?”
The post sparked excitement and speculation with many fans hoping the rumours are true and it will keep ‘the same vibe’ as the cherished former bar.
Caribou closed its doors for the final time earlier this year on Saturday, 13 January 2024. In a final tribute to their beloved watering hole, the bar owner said a ‘massive thank you’ to customers and invited them for ‘one last dance’.
The post on social media read: “The time has come to say farewell to Caribou, Galway and we’re looking forward to giving it the send-off it truly deserves.
“Again, we want to say a massive thank you to all who made our journey here on Woodquay an extremely memorable one.”
Caribou served Galway city for seven years. In that time, themselves are several other bold businesses opened their door in the previously sleepy area. Galway City Council later pedestrianised the area as footfall followed the businesses’ opening.
Today, the area is well loved by students and visitors to the city, with its plentiful cafés and pubs, public seating and striking green potted arrangements.
