Coco Gauff just made unique tennis history alongside Carlos Alcaraz

Coco Gauff keeps blazing a powerful trail in a fast-changing tennis world.

After reaching the French Open semifinals, Gauff moved up in the WTA rankings.

The 20-year-old American star is now No. 2 in the world, only trailing Poland’s Iga Swiatek, who knocked Gauff off the court at Roland Garros.

When combined with the new men’s ATP rankings, Gauff truly did something special.

For the first time in the sport’s history, the top-two players in the ATP and WTA rankings were all born in the 2000s.

Jannik Sinner (22) is No. 1 on the men’s side, while French Open winner Carlos Alcaraz is ranked second.

Sinner and Swiatek were born in 2001.

Alcaraz was born in 2003, while Gauff didn’t enter the world until 2004.

With Novak Djokovic recovering from a knee injury and Rafael Nadal approaching the end of his career, the men’s game is undergoing major changes at the top.

Gauff keeps rising on the women’s side and only Swiatek stands in her way.

“True changing of the guard,” one fan tweeted.

“The 21st Century taking over,” a second fan wrote.

“That’s wild!” a third fan said. “Makes me feel old, but it’s cool to see the younger generation dominating now. Wonder who’ll be next to break through?”

“COCO IS NEXT UP!” a fourth fan posted.

Gauff won the 2024 women’s doubles title at the French Open and claimed the singles trophy at the 2023 US Open.

She broke down in tears during a tense French Open moment last week, but collected herself to battle Swiatek in a tough second set.

Gauff also paired with Katerina Siniakova to prevail in the women’s doubles at Roland Garros, after normal American partner Jessica Pegula couldn’t play because of an injury.

Wimbledon returns to southwest London on July 1 and runs through July 14.

Alcaraz defeated Djokovic for the men’s title in 2023.

Marketa Vondrousova won the women’s side of the classic tournament.
