Colin Firth’s ex-wife Livia is recovering from breast-cancer surgery
Colin Firth’s ex-wife, Livia, has revealed that she’s recovering from breast cancer surgery.
The film maker and eco-campaigner, 54, who divorced the Bridget Jones star in 2019, says early diagnosis of her condition has probably saved her life.
Giving her Instagram followers an update, she shared a slew of selfies from through out her recovery.
The caption read: ‘I thought about this post a lot, and have decided to do it as prevention saved me.
‘Few weeks ago, thanks to regular yearly mammogram, my doctor (wonderful woman called Margherita) made an early diagnosis which was further investigated and revealed a carcinoma insitu.’
She continued: ‘The beginning of a cancer which would have turned real bad in few months and which I promptly removed and now it’s gone.
‘Thank you to the amazing @ieoistitutoeuropeodioncologia and all the team there who were so incredible.
‘I am SO lucky that this did not go any further, SO grateful as I have the privilege of access to great medical care, SO aware that there are millions of people who do not and I am not taking any of it for granted.’
Livia and actor Colin were married for 22 years before their split in 2019.
Between 2015 and 2016, it emerged that Livia had embarked on an affair with a friend from childhood, Marco Branaccia.
Colin first moved out in 2015 when the couple split before reuniting, splashing out £1.6million on a luxury three-bedroom flat nearby.
The couple met on the 1996 BBC drama Nostromo before tying the knot in Tuscany, Italy a year later.
They have sons aged 21 and 19 while Colin also shares a son, actor Will, 32, with former partner Meg Tilly, his co-star in the film Valmont.
In November 2019, Colin announced he had split from his wife Livia but said they remained ‘united in their love for their children’ almost two years after it emerged she had an affair with her childhood friend.
In December 2023, Daily Mail reported Livia is dating Scottish climate crusader Callum Grieve, 46, whom she refers to as her ‘Master Chef’.
The pair have already put the world to rights at a pro-Palestine protest where they clutched a poster bearing the slogan ‘Imagine Peace’.
Hopefully, at the very least, Callum proves to be a little less aggressive than Livia’s previous ex, her childhood friend Marco Brancaccia, who allegedly stalked her after the two ended their year-long affair in 2016.
