Cork city centre street closed due to safety concerns

PART of a city centre street in Cork has been closed overnight by the fire service because of public safety concerns.

A section of Maylor Street was closed just after 8.30pm by Cork City Fire Brigade following reports of structural concerns regarding a building on the north-western end of the street.

The pavement and part of the street is cordoned off on the Parnell Place end and will remain closed until at least Wednesday morning, when officials from Cork City Council are expected to make a determination as to whether to reopen the street.

It is understood that the issue relates to safety concerns regarding the structural integrity of a chimney stack.

It is believed that the building is not derelict and is currently in use.
