The song was recorded by the children of the Kabin Studio, a repurposed metal container turned into a non-profit youth music space in Knocknaheeny on the northside of Cork City in 2012.
The music video for The Spark, shot by videographer Seán Downey aka SwanIGuess, was filmed in one day at the Kabin, on the top-deck of the 202 Bus and the Pavilion Music Venue in Cork.
“The response has been amazing,” says Garry McCarthy of GMCBeats, the creative director of the Kabin Studio and co-producer of the song.
“The kids’ energy and positivity have inspired people worldwide. It’s been all over TikTok especially. It’s bonkers, we’ve never seen something like this!”
Speaking about the creation of The Spark, he added, “During one of our weekly rap workshops with the kids, we were looking for something upbeat to bring up the energy and found a PapaPedro-produced drum n bass beat online, and instantly started coming up with the initial chants and chorus ideas.”
Since its initial release three weeks ago, The Spark has amassed over 350 million views on platforms such as X, and TikTok.
