Cork protestor Ross Lahive charged with public order offence

Political protestor Ross Lahive, who ran unsuccessfully in the recent local authority elections, has been before Cork District Court charged with engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour likely to lead to a breach of the peace.

Ross Lahive, aged 44, of Church St, Shandon St, Cork, was charged with this count under the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act.

Defence solicitor Diarmuid Kelleher indicated that the defendant would be pleading not guilty to the charge brought against him by Sergeant Xiao Ma.

“I am seeking a date for hearing,” Mr Kelleher said.

Judge Mary Dorgan adjourned the case to October 1 at Courtroom 2 at the Anglesea Street courthouse.

It is anticipated that the case will be further adjourned on that occasion to a date when the court can hear the case against Mr Lahive.

No outline of the allegations that gave rise to the public order charge was given by Sergeant Dave Delea today (June 11).

The charge relates to an alleged incident on Patrick St, Cork, on May 12, 2023.
