Coronation Street star Eileen star strips off to share powerful health update

Sue Cleaver shared an important message with her Instagram followers as she ridded herself of her top to undergo a mammogram.

Taking to the social media platform this Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the Coronation Street star, penned a powerful statement for her 154k followers.




While she rose to prominence on the ITV soap – which airs on Virgin Media in Ireland – with her portrayal of Street Cars switch operator Eileen Grimshaw, Sue took on a whole different role as the patron of the charity Prevent Breast Cancer.

In her latest post, the actress, 60, shared a pair of pictures in which she appears topless, in the midst of her own “mammogram day”, with a thumbs up as she urged her admirers to follow suit.

In her caption, the former I’m A Celebrity contestant wrote: “Mammogram day for me… it’s so important to get your boobs checked out! Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, please don’t put off a mammogram & you can also check your boobs yourself. Predict… Prevent… Protect.”

Sue’s fans were quick to respond to her message as many of her followers shared their own experiences: “Mine in two weeks – amazing that you are promoting this as it is so so important, I have had ovarian and womb cancer and will always promote the importance of being aware of our bodies”, one penned. Another added: “I’m due mine. It’s not as bad as everyone says. Just relax and talk to the nurse about anything, and before you know, it’ll be done!”

Back in November, Sue announced she had become the patron for Prevent Breast Cancer in another solemn post on her social media profile in which she appeared along Corrie co-star Sally Dynevor, who has also supported the charity. Speaking about her new role earlier this year, Sue said: “Breast cancer affects so many of us in different ways. I’ve known about Prevent Breast Cancer through Sally Dynevor for many years and always admired the work the charity does to find out more about the prediction and prevention of breast cancer through research.”

She added: “I’ve been struck by just how many women I personally know who have experienced breast cancer – many of them far younger than you would expect – and I wanted to do more to help raise awareness of the many issues that can affect our risk of developing cancer.”

Back in March, Sue Cleaver – who has worked on her first book – spoke about how her new role on stage as Mother Superior in Sister Act: The Musical would impact her Coronation Street stint, which has been ongoing since 2000, confirming that, despite hew new project, her character Eileen would still appear in the cobbles.
