Coronation Street star Lucy Fallen recently revealed why she decided to return to the Cobbles after quitting the soap four years ago.

The actress, 28, who portrays Bethany Platt in the ITV soap opera, revealed that she needed time away, however, she confessed that she doesn’t regret leaving the show when she did.

Explaining her reasons for leaving originally, the star admitted to The Sun: ‘I needed that time away. I didn’t go and do an awful lot of work stuff. But I feel like I did quite a lot of life stuff.’

‘I just needed that. I don’t regret leaving at all. It was definitely the right thing for me to do at the time. But then, it was the right thing for me to come back, too.’

However, she revealed that coming back to the show wasn’t all plain sailing as she confessed she felt a bit strange on her first day back.

She admitted: ‘I felt different and a bit weird on my first day.’

However, she confessed  that it felt like no time had passed once she had been back on the show for a week.

Lucy plays resident journalist and self-appointed detective Bethany and she previously returned to the show last year as the writers thought her character was crucial to telling the story of Lauren’s fate.

The star received a phone call from a producer last April who confirmed that a grooming plot would bring her back into the story.

Lucy is one of the few people who has known Lauren’s fate for months, however, she has had to keep the secret from her nearest and dearest.

The star rnever says anything to her family as everyone knows not to ask and she claimed: ‘I always forget anyway’.

Lucy’s character Bethany has been embroiled in controversy since the day she was born.

Her mum, Sarah Louise, played by Tina O’Brien, was only 13 when she fell pregnant in a storyline that was headline news.

As well as the grooming plot, she has also been involved in a drug scare and has been expelled from school.

However, Lucy claimed that she revels in her character being given the gritty plots as she admitted they are her ‘favourite’ things to do.

It comes after the star quit the Cobbles in 2019 after four years of playing Bethany.

In a statement, the star told MailOnline she made the ‘extremely difficult decision’ to leave the show when her contract came to an end in 2020, and she later insisted in a tweet her exit ‘had nothing to do with anyone who worked on the show.’

She said: ‘After the most incredible four years, I have made the extremely difficult decision to leave Coronation Street at the end of my contract in 2020.’

‘It’s hard to put into words how much this show means to me. I’ve made lifelong friends with some of the most talented and hardworking people in the industry, I’ve had some terrific and immensely important storylines and I’ve laughed with the best people everyday.’

‘I’m so thankful to Iain and everyone at Coronation Street, I owe everything to them and I will miss them greatly.’

Lucy then went on to clarify her decision in a tweet, writing: ‘My decision to leave was made in August last year and has nothing to do with ANYONE at Coronation Street. I didn’t make it lightly and I am going to miss every single person there.’

‘Excited for my final year at the best place! Woo.’

Producer Iain MacLeod added: ‘Lucy advised us at the start of this year that she would like to leave at the end of her current contract in 2020 to pursue other projects.’

‘She is an amazing performer and has been at the centre of some huge stories for us during her time on the show.’

‘I have no doubt that her stellar career will continue beyond the cobbles and would like to wish her all the best in whatever she does next – starting with the brilliant final chapter of Bethany’s story!’

Meanwhile, a source told The Sun: ‘It’s a nightmare blow for bosses after losing Faye Brookes and Katie McGlynn so close together and has thrown the show into chaos.

‘Lucy’s been in Corrie just under five years and feels now is the right time to try new things.’

‘Everything is amicable and there isn’t any anger there. Bosses are keen to leave the role of Bethany open in case Lucy does want to return in the future.’
