Coronation Street star Sean Wilson set to return for Helen Worth exit
Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street legend Sean Wilson looks set to return to the soap for Helen Worth’s exit storyline on ITV1 and top streaming service ITVX.
The Sun reports Wilson will be reprising his Corrie role as Gail Platt’s ex-husband Martin Platt, a role he originally played between 1985 and 2005.
Digital Spy has reached out to Coronation Street for comment.
Gail and Martin were married for a decade, having started their romance following the death of Gail’s husband Brian Tilsley. They’d go on to have their son David together.

The Platts’ marriage was threatened when Martin had an affair with Rebecca Hopkins (Jill Halfpenny), but Gail ultimately took Martin back.
It was over for good in the 2000s, when Martin chose to move away to Liverpool with then-girlfriend Robyn (Clare Calbraith). He has made a handful of returns to Coronation Street since his 2005 exit, most recently popping up for a handful of episodes in 2018.
Wilson, who has started his own cheesemaking business since leaving Coronation Street, said last year he’d be willing to return as Martin.
“I made it clear that I could be turned, but now it’s 2023 and nothing has happened,” he told the Manchester Evening News.
“The writers decided to send me to New Zealand, so maybe they’re trying to tell me something. I am busy writing books, but of course, I would give it some thought.”
ITV shared the shocking news earlier in June that Helen Worth will be leaving Coronation Street later in 2024, after 50 years of playing Gail.
“I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew,” she said
“The past 50 years have flown by, and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”
Helen’s on-screen daughter Tina O’Brien led tributes to the soap icon, with co-star Jodie Prenger saying she hopes the current cast can “carry the torch” in her honour.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
