Coronation Street to air special episode for Paul and Billy story

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street is set to air a special episode devoted to Paul Foreman and Billy Mayhew.

The ITV1 and ITVX soap will focus on the changes to Paul’s daily life as his motor neurone disease (MND) progresses next week. In recent episodes, Paul has been struggling more with speech and has required round-the-clock care.

Upcoming scenes will have Paul getting devastating news when his occupational therapist suggests that he should no longer leave the flat because the stairlift is now too dangerous.

Billy is determined for Paul to get to do the things he loves one more time and promises he’ll take him out of the flat for a special day.

In a subsequent episode dedicated entirely to the couple’s storyline, Paul finds out as he wakes that his speech ability has drastically deteriorated.

Paul is determined to make the most of his last day outside of the house, leading to bittersweet scenes as Billy takes him to do many of his favourite things one last time.

The day is filled with emotional and heart-wrenching moments, as Paul faces the reality that he’ll likely be house-bound for the rest of his life.

These scenes air on Wednesday, July 24, followed by a single-strand episode on Friday, July 26 devoted strictly to Billy and Paul.

As Paul struggles with his new normal, he has also recently made the shocking discovery that his mum Bernie hid from him and his twin sister Gemma that she has another son named Kit, whom she gave up for adoption.

Kit has turned the twins against Bernie by manipulating Paul and Gemma into believing that their mother deprived them of the chance to really get to know their sibling.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
