Coventry clothing shop closes for good due to ‘debt issues’

A hugely popular Coventry clothing shop has closed for good. Select has shut down at West Orchards Shopping Centre on Smithford Way.

Select closed its doors for the final time last Friday (June 21). Stock has been cleared from inside the building, it is understood.

Staff handed back the keys to the premises on Monday (June 24). CoventryLive understands that the business is in a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).

Company Voluntary Agreements (CVAs) are an insolvency process specific to the UK. According to GOV.UK, they provide a way for businesses to pay off their debts over a fixed period.

Select will soon be replaced by a brand-new clothing shop called C&S. Although the exact opening date has not been announced, the retailer is said to be opening ‘soon.’

Andy Talbot, Senior Asset Manager at West Orchards, told CoventryLive: “Select closed last Friday (June 21) and handed the keys back on Monday (June 24). We understand Select is in a CVA. A new business C&S will be opening a fashion outlet soon.”
