Crane removes vehicle from Luas Red Line after it got embedded on tracks

A crane removes the vehicle from the tracks tonight.

There are currently “significant delays” on the Luas Red Line after a vehicle was driven onto the line and became stuck on the tracks.

The incident happened at around 8:30pm at the Blackhorse stop.

Luas operators were forced to use a crane to remove the van.

In a statement issued tonight at 10.30pm, Luas operators blamed a “reckless motorist” for the incident and apologised for the impact on their services.

The service is now back running but with “significant delays”.

The statement said:” Crane saved the night following reckless motorist behaviour. A reckless motorist embedded their car on the Luas track, at a cross over section, on the Luas Red Line, close to Blackhorse Stop.

“Three tow truck companies, Luas technicians and An Garda Síochána are still on site. Following inspection the car had to be removed by a crane and the overhead power in this area had to be de-energized for a period of time.

“As a result of this incident please be advised the Red Line is now operating The Point to Tallaght / Saggart with significant delays.

“A big thank you to the tow companies, Luas technicians, and Gardaí for their assistance with this incident.”
