LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT CRICKET COMPETITION REPORTS – JULY 13

1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

Colwyn Bay (20) 211-2 Maghull (3) 205-8

Bay made it four wins in as many completed games as they chased down a 200-plus total that visitors Maghull took a painstaking 75 overs to churn out.

George Johansen’s side put the opposition into bat and faced a very long fielding session, the Liverpool outfit posting 205-8 off those 75 six-ballers.

Liam Crilly carried his bat for a commanding 123 not out.

For the hosts, Paul Jenkins took 3-45 off 20, while left-arm spinner Dulanjala Mendis bowled a mammoth 30 overs, picking up 3-47. Jamie Moorhouse nabbed 2-32.

Bay would not be denied victory and smashed 211-2 off 30.1 overs to seal an eight-wicket victory which delivered 20 points and kept the North Walians third in Division One.

Outstanding pair Dan Russell (77 not out) and Zack Gidlow (72) put on 139 for the first wicket, Sion Morris ending unbeaten on 28.

1ST XI SECOND DIVISION

Northop Hall (5) 118-6 Southport Trinity (5) 152-9 dec

Hall’s Nathan Roett added another four wickets to his impressive collection but the hosts had to be content with a draw at Smithy Lane.

Visitors Southport Trinity won the toss and batted, setting 152-9 declared off 55 overs, having been 28-4 early on as Roett wreaked havoc with the new ball.

Trinity were actually 100-9, but an unbroken last-wicket stand of 52 between Michael Roberti (38 not out) and Mark Prince (23 no) saved them from defeat. Fred Thorpe top-scored with 40.

Roett claimed 4-50 off 20, boosting his league wickets tally for 2024 to 32, Andrew Watkin scooped 3-26 from 10 and James Hurlin 2-47.

Hall were 118-6 off 31 when time ran out, Hurlin 32 and Cayo Jones 27 no, Roberti 3-15.

Prestatyn (6) 104-8 Wavertree (7) 166-10

Adam Tidswell returned a first team career best 6-43 but Prestatyn had to settle for a drawn encounter at Beach Close.

Visitors Wavertree were inserted by the hosts and bowled out for 166, skipper Theo O’Brien 60 and Naveed Saleh 45.

Tidswell’s super six-for was well backed by Aarya Jadhav’s 4-56 off 24.1.

When the overs ran out at 50, Prestatyn were somewhat hanging on at 104-8 in reply, Rohit Kaimal best with 32.

Wavertree edged a winning draw 7-6.

2ND XI PREMIER DIVISION

Northern 2nd XI (25) 90-3 Colwyn Bay (2) 89-10

Matt Russell’s 51 was the stand-out knock in Bay seconds’ disappointing total of 89 all out, Northern seconds replying with a winning 90-3 off just 17.4 overs, Ryan Holtby 2- 32 for the visitors.

2ND XI SECOND DIVISION

Northop Hall 2nd XI (25) 70-2 St Helens Town 2nd XI (1) 69-10

Sunday joy for Hall seconds as they romped to a maximum points, eight-wicket home victory which lifted them to second in the table.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat, St Helens Town seconds were blown away for just 69, the in-form Sion Hellen snapping up 4-12 off 7.3, Renit Adke 3-16 from eight.

Hall eased to 70-2 in 13 overs, Gareth Fox 31 not out.

St Helens Town 2nd XI (5) 90-9 Northop Hall 2nd XI (8) 157-9 dec

In the first leg of a weekend double header between these sides, Hall came close to victory on Saturday but had to make do with a winning draw.

Opting to bat, Hall posted 157-9 off 37 overs, opener Renit Adke 47.

In response, Saints were clinging on at the close on 90-9, Adke 5-30 off 15 and Matthew Edwards 3-12 from 11.
