CSI men’s basketball signs Detroit native Morrast

From the Motor City to the Magic Valley.

The College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball team announced the signing on Wednesday of Detroit native Kenneth Morrast Jr. for the 2024-25 season.

A 6-foot-3 point guard, Morrast attended Ecorse High School and graduated in 2023 before attending Hillcrest Prep in Gilbert, Arizona, for the 2023-24 season. At Ecorse, he became a three-time All-State Dream Team and a three-time All-State Michigan High School Athletic Association selection. He helped lead Ecorse to two final four appearances, two regional championships and two district championships.

He averaged 29 points, five rebounds, six assists and six steals per game as a senior and hit 3-pointers at a state best 60% clip. He averaged 24 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals per game as a junior.

He averaged 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals per game as a sophomore.

“I’m excited to announce the signing of KJ,” CSI head coach Jeff Reinert said in a press release. “We were looking for depth and shooting at the guard spot. KJ was one of the top scorers in Detroit a year ago and has an excellent ability from long range. We lost our starting five players and most of our backcourt. We need talented players coming in to pick up the slack and KJ will have an opportunity to do that.”

Johnson averaged 14.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game in his lone season at CSI as he helped the Golden Eagles to a Region 18 runner-up finish.

CSI graduated its two starting guards — Jaylon Johnson and Asim Jones.

“I can’t wait to get on the court out there, for sure. Finally put on a Florida International jersey so it definitely feels good.”

Morrast is the second announced signee for 2024-25, joining former Brigham Young University walk-on guard and Eagle High School alum Tanner Hayhurst.
