Dad-of-two is shot and killed ‘by teenage boy aged 14 and friend’
Surveillance footage has captured the moment a father-of-two was gunned down and killed by thieves who were trying to steal a golf cart from a farmer’s market.
Damon Price, 36, was working at Houston Farmers Market on Thursday morning when cops say two people came in and tried to steal a golf cart.
Price had been helping to check in delivery trucks when the incident unfolded and tried to stop the thieves, when they shot him multiple times.
The two suspects were then caught on camera fleeing the scene, leaving him for dead in the parking lot.
On Friday, ABC13 reported that a 14-year-old was now in custody in connection with his death.
In surveillance footage released by police, the two young suspects can be seen going through merchandise at the market and eying up the golf cart.
They were wearing backpacks and one of them appeared to be wearing flip flops.
Investigators who attended the scene said that they found at least four shell casings.
‘This happened while he was doing his job,’ his father, Leo Price Senior, told the outlet. ‘Really, ain’t nothing that can be said about a man going to work.’
Price’s ex-wife, Cheterria Alexander, whom he shares a 14-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old daughter, found out about Prince’s death on her way to a chemo therapy appointment.
‘Put the guns down The man was just working trying to provide for his kids and his family,’ Alexander told KTRK.
‘He has a family just like y’all have a family. We’re taking a loss. They should take a loss, too,’ Price’s ex-wife, Cheterria Alexander, said. ‘I just ask that justice be served. Whoever did this to him, just turn yourself in. He had babies. What if it was you?’
The Houston Farmers Market said in a statement: ‘We are devastated by the tragic event that occurred this morning and claimed the life of an innocent man and beloved market employee.
‘Our hearts and prayers go out to the victim’s families, friends, and our entire Houston Farmers Market community as we navigate this senseless tragedy.
‘Houston Police Department is actively investigating the situation and we are supporting them in every way we can — including working closely with Crime Stoppers (more details to follow) — to bring these criminals to justice.’
