Dallas-Based CBRE Buys California Data Center Infrastructure Co. To Expand Hyperscale Services
Dallas-based real estate services giant CBRE Group Inc. has acquired Direct Line Global, a provider of mission-critical data center infrastructure for the world’s leading technology companies, from the private equity firm Guardian Capital.
“This acquisition fits squarely with our strategy of enhancing our capabilities in asset classes that benefit from secular tailwinds—in this case, the increasing digitization of the global economy,” CBRE Chief Operating Officer Vikram Kohli said in a statement.
Kohli said Direct Line Global “perfectly complements” CBRE’s existing data center management capabilities, noting that its technical capabilities differentiate the real estate giant’s service offering.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Direct Line Global, founded in 1997, provides design, installation, maintenance, and management solutions for data center owners and operators, primarily in the U.S. CBRE said Direct Line Global is focused on serving the world’s largest global technology companies across the rapidly growing hyperscale market, along with the co-location and enterprise segments.
Global market for data center support services estimated at $30B
CBRE said the global market for data center support services is estimated to be approximately $30 billion and is expected to grow at 16% per year through 2028.
Direct Line Global provides technical services, such as server support infrastructure, while CBRE currently focuses on facilities management services. Combining the two gives CBRE the ability to deliver integrated data center solutions that no other service provider can match.
“We see huge benefits from operating as part of CBRE,” Bill Nelligan, chief executive officer of Direct Line Global, said in a statement. “Our business has strong momentum, driven by the economy’s voracious appetite for data and artificial intelligence’s explosive growth.
Nelligan said the company is “particularly energized” about the opportunities for overseas growth that CBRE’s global platform provides.
Since Nelligan became CEO in 2021, Fremont, California-based Direct Line Global has experienced significant growth. According to CBRE, the company now employs more than 1,000 people, with major operations in northern Virginia and additional locations in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Singapore, and South Korea.
Direct Line Global will operate as part of CBRE’s Data Centers Solutions business within the Global Workplace Solutions business segment.
