Dallas Cowboys signing UFL standout in NFL free agency | Sporting News

Now that the United Football League season is over, some of the league’s standouts have already begun signing with NFL teams, and the Dallas Cowboys are getting in on the fun.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Cowboys are signing linebacker Willie Harvey Jr. who played for the St. Louis Battlehawks and was voted to the inaugural All-UFL Team.

Harvey had a sensational season for the Battlehawks, with the linebacker tallying 78 tackles and four sacks in 10 games. The 28-year-old led the UFL in tackles and led all linebackers in tackles for loss (nine), passes defensed (six) and forced fumbles (two).

Prior to his stint in the UFL, Harvey Jr. entered the NFL as an undrafted free-agent signing of the Cleveland Browns in 2019. He appeared in four games (zero starts) over two seasons (2019 and 2021) but tallied just two tackles in 51 special teams snaps.

Linebacker was one of the biggest needs the Cowboys had to address this offseason, and they made several moves to do just that. We’ll see if Harvey can carry over his success from the UFL into the NFL and crack the Cowboys’ 53-man roster out of training camp.
