DeChambeau offers to host Trump vs Biden golf match after debate clash
Donald Trump and Joe Biden went head-to-head in the first debate of the 2024 Presidential race, with golf a surprising hot topic – and Bryson DeChambeau is ready to help them settle it
Bryson DeChambeau has thrown down the gauntlet, offering to host a golf contest between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. The challenge comes hot on the heels of a heated exchange about their golfing prowess during the duo’s first live debate on CNN.
The conversation took a swing towards golf after CNN’s Dana Bash broached the subject of the ages Trump, 78, and Biden, 81, would be at the end of another term. Defending his age, Biden was interrupted by Trump who claimed he had aced two cognitive tests.
The debate quickly turned personal, with Trump bragging he had recently “won two club championships – not even senior – two regular club championships”.
He boasted: “To do that, you have to be quite smart and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way and I do it. He doesn’t do it. He can’t hit a ball 50 yards. He challenged me to a golf match – he can’t hit a ball 50 yards.”
Biden shot back, stating he would “be happy to have a driving contest” to showcase his golf skills. “I got my handicap, which when I was vice president, down to a six,” Biden claimed. “And by the way, I told you before, I’m happy to play golf if you carry your own bag. Think you can do it?”.
Trump retorted, accusing Biden of lying, saying: “That’s the biggest lie that he’s a six handicap of all”. Biden then seemed to backtrack slightly, correcting himself: “I was a eight handicap. Yeah. Eight.”
“I’ve seen you swing. I know your swing,” Trump taunted. “Let’s not act like children” which was met with Biden replying: “You are a child.”
The debate took an unexpected turn towards golf, leading U.S. Open champ DeChambeau to jump in with a cheeky offer on X. The LIV Golf superstar and social media heavyweight suggested, “Let’s settle this whole handicap debate, I’ll host the golf match on my YouTube @realDonaldTrump @JoeBiden”.
DeChambeau, who has hit the course with Trump before, has expressed his admiration for the former president in the past, saying he’s “very lucky to have a relationship with him” and noting: “he’s always been generous to me.”
He’s also friends with Trump’s son Eric, having been spotted drinking wine from his U.S. Open trophy with him in New York just after his win. Donald Trump also shared his congratulations after his second major victory.
“Congratulations to Bryson DeChambeau on his incredible WIN of the United States Open!” he wrote on Truth Social. “He showed a toughness and inner strength, matched perfectly with his GREAT Golfing Talent, that can never be denied!”
“Under massive pressure, he pulled off some of the greatest shots ever made, especially his spectacular sand save on the 18th Hole that gave him the Victory.”
With 788,000 followers already hanging on his every video, DeChambeau’s YouTube channel could explode if he manages to host the much-anticipated Trump vs. Biden golf face-off.
