DeChambeau’s honest reaction as LIV Golf teammate gifts Sergio Garcia victory
The LIV Golf League took a dramatic swing during the weekend’s action in Spain as the table leaders Crushers GC tasted defeat in a playoff
Crushers GC captain Bryson DeChambeau gave a candid response to his team’s defeat at the LIV Golf Andalucia, following Anirban Lahiri’s loss in a sudden death play-off hole.
The weekend’s action in Spain saw a dramatic turn of events for the LIV Golf League as table leaders Crushers GC were defeated in a playoff. Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs GC emerged victorious after an impressive finish that secured victory for their captain on his home turf.
Garcia managed to overcome a seven-stroke deficit to win his first LIV Golf individual title on the second sudden death playoff hole against Lahiri. Meanwhile, team-mates Abraham Ancer and David Puig outperformed Crushers captain DeChambeau and Paul Casey in the team aggregate score playoff.

The Fireballs, which includes three Spaniards, walked away with both trophies at Real Club Valderrama. The thrilling conclusion marked the first time in LIV Golf’s brief history that a double play-off took place, and only the second team playoff since LIV Golf Adelaide earlier this year. Garcia started the day at even par, trailing overnight leader Lahiri by seven shots.
However, the 2017 Masters champion played flawlessly for 17 holes, scoring six birdies as he caught up with Lahiri. Despite this, Garcia recorded his only bogey of the day on the par 3 third, finishing on five under 66.
Lahiri birdied the par 5 17th hole to take control of the tournament but missed the putt for a final round 73, falling back to five under and setting up a double play-off.

Both players managed to par their first playoff hole, while DeChambeau could only manage a bogey and Casey’s shot landed in the rough behind the green. This allowed Ancer and Puig to secure pars and clinch the Fireballs’ inaugural team victory of the season.
Meanwhile, it was a double whammy for Lahiri who also bogeyed the playoff hole, leaving Garcia to revel in triumph with a steady par.
DeChambeau expressed his frustration after the Crushers missed the chance to build on their two wins this season, offering consolation to Lahiri by saying: “It sucks. Losing is never fun. That’s what makes winning so much better. I feel for Baan [Lahiri].”
The win catapulted Garcia to third in the individual rankings, while Lahiri’s maiden top-five finish of the campaign propelled him to 16th place. Despite not clinching the title, the Crushers widened their lead atop the team leaderboard, surpassing Legion XIII who came in 10th at Andalucia, as the Fireballs ascended to sixth position.
