SPRINGFIELD — Fab Passion Fashion Week New England founder Richie Richardson wants his event to help solidify Springfield as the capital of fashion in New England.
Through exhibitions at the event, Richardson will highlight the significance of cultural diversity in the fashion industry, a subject he believes is not sufficiently covered in American fashion education.
“The stories we bring to fashion are important. They are who we are. We find it etched in us, and then we bring that with us everywhere in the world,” he said. “Fashion is diverse, the world population is diverse. There is no one population or people who do fashion. All people do fashion.”
The Fab Passion Fashion Week New England will take place starting Sept. 27 in downtown Springfield at the Community Music School.
Fab Fashion Week began in 2018 in Franklin County and expanded last year with a preview event in Springfield by invitation of Make-It Springfield. This event coincided with the inaugural Springfield Fashion Week held in August.
