Dior’s star-studded fashion show pays a nod to its historic setting

Tartan, leather, lace and feathers were all on display as models flaunted daring looks at the star-studded Dior Cruise show held in the picturesque ground of Perthshire’s Drummond Castle on Monday.

The event – set in Crieff – which was attended by A-listers including Anya Taylor-Joy, Geri Horner, Jennifer Lawrence and Alexa Chung appeared to nod to to its Scottish surroundings mixed in with a Victorian touch, featuring corset-style silhouettes and squared necklines.

Speaking to The Scotsman, former Harper’s Bazaar editor Justine Picardie, who was involved in the show, gushed about its ‘perfect setting’.

‘I first went with my husband when I was living in Scotland,’ she said. ‘It’s often described as one of the most beautiful gardens in Scotland, but I think it’s one of the most beautiful in the world. It’s just magical.’

She also explained how the location is important to Christian Dior – who died in 1957, aged 52 – himself.

Justine revealed that he had made headlines in Scotland by hosting 1955 shows in Glasgow and the Gleneagles.

‘As you can imagine, the fact that the biggest fashion designer in the world should come here made headlines in Scotland as well as around the world,’ she said.

‘I’ve always thought that it would be a really wonderful thing for Dior to return and to work with Scottish textile makers and manufacturers.’

Justine also said that Christian was said to have ‘stayed on’ in Scotland for a while after the shows ended because he wanted to ‘explore’ the region.

She remarked on the ‘special relationship between France and Scotland that goes all the way back to Mary Queen of Scots and even before then’.
