Disc Golf Gets On Board For 2024 Bullet Chess Championship
One of the most unlikely and fun crossovers in sport is back: disc golf and chess are getting together to put on another blockbuster event for fans.
The 2024 Chess.com Invitational was the Disc Golf Pro Tour’s season-opening event back in February, and it quickly caught the eye as disc golf stars Anthony Barela and Eveliina Salonen were crowned champions.
The event was attended by none other than the chess world number-one GM Magnus Carlsen who is no stranger to the fast-growing sport of disc golf. Carlsen was interviewed with six-time disc golf world champion Paul McBeth by Chess.com’s Chief Chess Officer Danny Rensch, who is also a fan of the game.
Now the DGPT is returning the favor by supporting what will be the undisputed fastest online chess event of the year, the 2024 Bullet Chess Championship.
The main event of Chess.com’s flagship ultra-fast chess tournament tees off on June 10 with some of the biggest names in the game.
Topping the lineup announced last month is four-time winner GM Hikaru Nakamura, who is one of the top players in the $100,000 Bullet Chess Championship.
Also heading down the fairway will be some of the most deadly grandmasters in chess: GMs Fabiano Caruana, Alireza Firouzja, Nihal Sarin, Daniel Naroditsky, and Andrew Tang along with GMs Anish Giri, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Jose Martinez, Tuan Minh Le, and Oleksandr Bortnyk.
But with the DGPT on board, the event will be about so much more. As part of the partnership, fans of both sports will be able to join the Official DGPT Club on Chess.com.
The club will be perfect for disc golf fans to receive regular updates from the disc golf community, participate in tournaments for DGPT prizes, and take advantage of special offers. You may even see some of the biggest disc golf stars there.
Club members will also be able to claim a free month of Disc Golf Network Standard or Pro. Subscription to the Disc Golf Network offers live video coverage of premier disc golf events all season long, including all DGPT Elite Series and PDGA Pro Majors. All you have to do to qualify is join the Official DGPT Community Club on Chess.com.
Chess.com has also announced it will be a partner of the DGPT for the remainder of the 2024 season. Chess fans can tune in to see the “Chess.com Checkmate Play of the Day” across many upcoming DGPT tournament broadcasts.
“We’re thrilled to expand our partnership with Chess.com after their title sponsorship for the 2024 DGPT Season Opener,” said Jeff Spring, DGPT CEO and Tour Director. “The enthusiasm from the DGPT audience has been fantastic, showing how many disc golfers enjoy chess and are excited to see Chess.com working with the Tour.
“We’re excited to continue working together by becoming an Official Partner of the Bullet Chess Championship and fostering increased community crossover by offering disc golf fans an opportunity to learn to play chess on the world’s number-one online platform.”
The live broadcast of the main event will be aired on Chess.com/TV and on our Twitch and YouTube channels, with expert commentary provided by Chess.com’s team.
