Donations flood in as fundraiser set up for John Hunt’s family after tragedy
An online fundraiser to help support racing commentator John Hunt and his grieving family has raised over £16,000 in less than a day.
The tragic murder of Hunt’s wife Carol, 61, and their two daughters, Hannah, 28, and Louise, 25, has numbed the horse racing community and the wider world.
Hunt is a much-loved figure in the racing community, and over the past week, there have been many heartfelt tributes to his family.
Now Hunt’s Sky Sports racing colleague Matt Chapman has organised a GoFundMe page to support his friend’s family through this unimaginable time.
Chapman wrote: “This Go Fund Me page has the blessing of John and his family. I am sure, like me, you have been left numb by what has happened.
“I want to help. What can I do?
“That is a question many of you will be asking and have asked John in hundreds/thousands of messages that have meant so much to those involved.
“Well, what we can do is raise as much money as possible for the Hunt family, in particular daughter Amy.
“On the back of the horror, I know John would so dearly love Amy to be able to get through life without any financial worries.
“Of course, during these devastating times life continues.
“If we can relieve any stress for the Hunts then why wouldn’t we all do so?
“This is a special family that has been left heartbroken. Please give anything you can to show them just how much we care and love them.”
At the time of writing, £16,260 has already been raised towards a £50,000 target.
Chapman has personally donated £1,000 to the cause, and many prominent names in the horse racing community have also donated.
In a statement on Saturday, Hunt and his family said: “The devastation that we are experiencing cannot be put into words.
“We would like to thank people for their kind messages and for the support we have received in recent days. These have provided great comfort to us for which we are very grateful.
“As you can imagine, this is an extremely difficult time for us, and we need time and space to come to terms with what has happened and start the grieving process. While this is happening, we would ask that our privacy and that of our wider family and relations be respected at this time. Thank you.”
Kyle Clifford, 26, the man suspected of killing the three women in Bushey, Hertfordshire, has been arrested on three counts of murder.
