Double-header for the Cork footballers and hurlers Saturday week

THE Cork footballers’ clash with Tyrone in the All-Ireland SFC Group 3 Round 3 tie has been confirmed for Saturday, June 15, which will be shown on GAAGO with throw-in at 3pm.

It will be part of a double-header with the Cork hurlers with Pat Ryan’s charges meeting the Joe McDonagh Cup winners, either Offaly or Laois in the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final. That particular final is down for decision in Croke Park this Saturday at 3.30pm.

If Offaly are victorious, the attractive and intriguing double-header will take place at Glenisk O’Connor Park in Tullamore which has a capacity of 18,000, with 7,000 of those seated.

Laois are slight favourites going into the final this weekend and if the O’Moore County were successful, the two games would be held in their home ground of Laois Hire O’Moore Park in Portlaoise, a capacity of 22,000, 6,500 seated.

Regardless of who comes through on Saturday, it’s a mouthwatering double-header for the Cork fans with both teams ticking along nicely. John Cleary’s side are top of their respective group after the fantastic win over Donegal last Saturday and a win or a draw against Tyrone would send them through to the quarter-finals for the third year in a row.

The hurlers are full of confidence after morale-boosting wins over Limerick and Tipperary having been put on the brink of elimination following defeats to Waterford and Clare in the Munster SHC round-robin. The time for the hurlers game is to be decided.
