Dublin Airport issues urgent warning for families heading on summer hols

DUBLIN Airport has issued an urgent warning to families travelling abroad this summer.

While many parents may think it is a good idea to bring toys for their kids on holidays, they should be wary of what they pack in hand luggage.

Dublin Airport has taken to X, formerly Twitter, to remind parents not to pack certain toys in their hand luggage as they aren’t allowed through.

The tweet read: “Travelling with kids this summer?

“A reminder that hurls and toy guns can’t be taken through security in hand luggage.

“If you need to take them, please check them in.

“Here’s just some of those that have been confiscated by the team over the past week”.

In the pictures a series of kids toys can be seen including Nerf guns and hurls.

Those travelling through Dublin Airport have been urged to familiarise themselves with the rules – as a new requirement could catch them out.

Dublin Airport previously took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a little-known security measure that passengers should be aware of.

They wrote: “Passengers should be prepared to remove any hoodies or loose oversize jumpers or sweaters when going through security screening.

“Please remove the top and place it in the tray for screening.”

Dublin Airport explained that oversized garments may conceal additional items or the outline of your person.

This could include an over-sized hoodie, jumper, jacket or sweaters.

To prepare for security when travelling through the airport, passengers should ensure containers measure a maximum of 100ml.

Passengers are only allowed one clear plastic bag measuring one litre.

The contents of the bag should total a maximum of one litre.

The bag should be separated from the hand baggage and must be sealed shut.

Liquids allowed include makeup, toiletries, drinks, and with exception – medication, baby food, and special dietary requirements.

Dublin Airport also advise passengers to bring one cabin bag, and take electronic devices out of the bag, placing them in a security tray.

Passengers should also put coins, wallers, belts and metallic strap watches in the tray.

Jewellery should be taken off and put in your bag.

Shoes, runners or boots that reach ankle height or higher should be removed and put in the tray for security screening.

Dublin Airport advises: “Ideally do not carry any sharp items, however if you do have sharp items such as a small nail scissors, it must be less than 6cm in size and then it will be allowed.

“Anything above 6cm is not allowed in carry on hand baggage.”

Passengers are advised to arrive at their terminal two hours before departure time for short-haul flights and three hours before long-haul flights.
