Dublin expert issues advice on how much cash you should give as a wedding gift
Weddings always coincide with summer, and the season is well on its way.
This begs the question of how much money is acceptable as a wedding gift or if a gift is a better option. A Dublin wedding expert says individuals shouldn’t feel compelled to give cash and can instead choose gift options.
Shell Holden, from SaveMyDay.ie, shared with Dublin Live the appropriate amount of money to include in a card.

Shell said: “If you would prefer to give cash and wonder how much to give, there are a few factors that you can consider.
“The average amount given at an Irish wedding is €50–€200, and what level on the scale you choose to give depends on how close you are to the couple, are you bringing a plus one, how much is the meal of the wedding you are attending, and most importantly, how much you can afford.
“It is important to not pressurise yourself into feeling that you need to give a certain level of cash, remember that you are invited to the wedding as the couple want to celebrate their special day with their nearest and dearest, and that includes you.”
Shell has also compiled a list of alternative gifts for wedding couples if you prefer to give a present instead of cash. The Irish company takes pride in supporting and showcasing other Irish businesses, particularly remarkable and unique wedding venues across the country.
Shell favours giving gifts from Irish businesses as wedding presents as an alternative to cash. SaveMyDay.ie recommends the following:
A voucher for a hotel or restaurant
This could be for the hotel or venue where the wedding took place, allowing the couple to revisit the location of their ‘I Do’ on a future anniversary.
Alternatively, you might select a restaurant that the newlyweds particularly enjoy or a type of cuisine they are fond of.
There are also vouchers available for collections of Irish venues and businesses, which can be redeemed at various locations, providing the couple with a range of options. Examples include Press Up Group and Ireland’s Blue Book.
Find your own signature gift idea
An excellent way to simplify choosing a wedding present is to select a signature gift that you give at every wedding you attend.
These could include a bottle of spirits from an Irish distillery dated the year of the wedding, with a note suggesting it be enjoyed on a future anniversary; a woollen blanket or throw from an Irish weaver; or a print of the city where the couple met, live, or that holds significance to their relationship.
There are numerous fantastic Irish businesses, creators, and artisans to choose from for the perfect wedding gift.
