Emmerdale villain Josh targeted by Kerry after his lies

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale newcomer Josh Cope is targeted by Kerry Wyatt next week after his cruel lies about Matty Barton.

The new villain finds himself in a precarious situation as Kerry tries to trick him into making a confession.

Josh has led the way with framing Matty after the recent stabbing incident at The Hide.

During a chaotic attempted robbery of the venue, Josh pushed Samson Dingle towards Matty. This led to Samson being accidentally stabbed by the knife that Matty was holding.

To cover their tracks, Josh and Samson have both lied that Matty went on the attack without provocation. Matty has since been sent to jail on remand as he awaits trial over the allegations.

Next week, Kerry steps in to help her son-in-law Matty after previous attempts from Moira and Cain both fail.

While at The Woolpack, Kerry takes the opportunity to charm Josh when he pops in for a drink.

Kerry tries to record their conversation on her phone, hoping that Josh will spill the beans, but her plan soon backfires.

Could Kerry make things worse for Matty by interfering in his case? And how will Charity Dingle feel about Kerry hassling a pub customer?

The scenes come as Emmerdale explores how Matty copes with his frightening time in prison.

Next week’s episodes see Kerry’s daughter Amy pay a visit to her jailed husband. Amy is distressed to see how much Matty is struggling under the pressure.

Ash Palmisciano, who plays Matty, recently told ITV1’s Lorraine: “This is the worst possible thing that could happen. It’s not a good time for him at all.

“He’s a nice guy and he’s a soft guy. He’s been quite sheltered by his lovely family. The thought of going to prison anyway would be terrifying, let alone the fact that he’s a trans guy – and what does that mean for him? What is it going to be like in there for him? It’s an extra whole layer of fear.”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
