End of an era as Longford Garda Superintendent retires after 38 years service in the force

Best wishes to Superintendent Seamus Boyle who officially retired from An Garda Síochána on Friday last, July 5 after 38 years service.  

We thank Seamus for his dedication to his work and wish him good health and many happy years in his retirement. 

A presentation evening was held in J.V.s from his work colleagues on Friday night.

The Bunlahy native took the helm in the Granard District in 2019, overseeing local feuds, drug busts and other criminal activity while maintaining a strong relationship with the local community.

In a previous interview with Longford Live back in 2021 upon his appointment, Seamus said: “My heart has always been in Longford,” he said.

On crime in Longford, he had said: “We do have our problems and it’s not something you can turn around overnight. But there’s great work being done here by the gardaí and the County Council and other agencies. There are fantastic people working in Longford.”
