Ex-Ireland international Kennedy takes Swindon job

Swindon have named former Lincoln boss Mark Kennedy as their new head coach.

The Robins moved for the Dubliner – a winner of 34 Republic of Ireland caps as a player between 1995 and 2002 – after a poor 2023-24 campaign, where they finished 19th in Sky Bet League Two after they dismissed Michael Flynn in January.

Kennedy has been out of work since he left Lincoln in October, but had spent 18 months with the Imps and also had an eight-month role in charge of Macclesfield in 2020.

“I’m really excited to be here at Swindon Town and I’m very much looking forward to the project that is in place here,” Kennedy told the official club website.

“I also think it’s crucial we look forward now and plan for the future with the exciting plans here at this sleeping giant of a football club, which I’m confident we can all achieve if we’re all pulling in the same direction.”

Jamie Russell, Swindon’s head of football, added: “The appointment of Mark Kennedy as our new head coach is an opportunity for positive change and progress across Swindon.”
