Expansion of Novo factory could create 1000 jobs, reports media
An expansion of Novo Nordisk’s factory in the US could potentially create 1000 new jobs, according to local TV station Wral-news, Danish newspaper Børsen reports.
On Tuesday, the media outlet Finans reported that local authorities have issued 17 building permits to Novo Nordisk and the contractor BE&K Building Group, according to the American media Triangle Business Journal.
Novo Nordisk is reportedly planning to invest DKK 27bn (USD 3.9bn) in an expansion of its Clayton, North Carolina, plant to meet the high demand for GLP-1 drugs for diabetes and obesity.
The pharmaceutical company has not yet confirmed the expansion, but according to anonymous sources with knowledge of the process, the announcement could come as early as Monday, according to Børsen.
In recent years, Novo Nordisk has invested billions of dollars in increasing its production capacity, particularly of the popular GLP-1 drugs.
