Fair City star says murderer could be Carrigstown favourite ‘back for revenge
MACLEAN Burke has lifted the lid on the thrilling Fair City storyline as he thinks it could be a Carrigstown favourite “back for revenge.”
Carrigstown was recently plunged into mourning when the body of a murder victim was identified as Laura Halpin.
Laura’s funeral played out on screens, with the only piece of evidence Gardai currently have to go on being a sinister card discovered by Mairead at Laura’s memorial.
Maclean, who stars as Laura’s sister Damien Halpin, revealed that none of the cast knows who the killer is, but they all have their suspicions.
Laura’s brother, played by Maclean Burke has his own ideas on the identity of his sister’s murderer.
Marty Halpin was in the soap more than two decades ago and was Damien and Laura’s father, but he took his own life after murdering the pairs mother.
Guessing the killer’s identity, the 44-year-old told RSVP: “I wondered if it was Marty coming back for revenge. That one is probably a bit much.
“When Damien, Laura and Mark were selling their family home, I wondered if someone would come out of the woodwork to lay claim to the place.
“Marty was a very devious man and there is no doubt in my mind that there would have been extra curricular activities on his end.
“He wasn’t an honest character. That would be an exciting story to tell if it ever came around.”

And some fan theories aren’t too far off Damien’s guess, as many fans think Fair City newcomer Georgie is Marty’s secret offspring.
Georgie, who came to Carrigstown with no real connections and lives in the old-Halpin family home was believed to be Marty’s secret child who came back for revenge on his dead father’s behalf.
However, the identity of the killer has remained a tight-lipped secret both on and off the set of the RTE soap, as Maclean said when fans stop him on the street they don’t even want to know the killer’s identity.
He explained: “The writers kept the news really tight to their chests. I found out that the body was Laura’s during the read through on set. I didn’t have the scripts for the following weeks, so I didn’t know.”
The soap star also added that these types of story lines are good fun for the cast and fans as “everyone gets involved” but he also thinks certain plot lines are important to add to wider issues in Ireland.

He said: “The subject matter is also en pointe with everything going on in Ireland at the moment with violence towards women. The timing from a story point of view couldn’t be better.”
Despite fans suspicions of Georgie, in the most recent episode of Fair City, Damien and Mairead reassured Georgie that he was safe as Damien prepared to make a statement.
As Damien prepared to make a statement to the press, hoping to lure out Laura’s killer, he was surprised when Laura’s ex – reporter Nina – turned up at the press conference.
Damien put his differences with Nina aside for the sake of getting the message out there.
Damien made a spur of the moment addition to his public plea for Laura, offering a fifty-thousand-euro reward for information that leads to an arrest.

As Buckley and Mairead reel from Damien’s announcement, Nina reassured Damien that he had done the right thing. Mairead swallowed her concerns about the reward money and pledged to support Damien.
Damien was bowled over when Dolores insisted on providing the reward money. Damien was certain that he’ll find Laura’s killer before the Guards.
