Michael’s owner and head chef Gareth Smith made the announcement of the shock closure after its lease expired.

But the hugely popular restaurant said they will continue to serve at it’s other location in Blackrock, south Dublin.

Head chef ‘Gaz’ reassured fans that they will still be serving delicious seafood at Big Mikes in Blackrock.

He said: “For now, we’ll be focusing on wrapping up all the wonderful Michael’s magic and bringing the whole experience under one roof at Big Mike’s in Blackrock.

“The next move has ignited exciting energy among my a-team, eagerly anticipating being together as one again with the gaffer and the bit of madness that always entails, let the bickering begin.

“Big Mikes in Blackrock is entering phase II, and it has become so successful that it needs my entire Champions League squad there everyday, enhancing the guests experience and overseeing its thriving growth.”

Gareth added when they will celebrate their second birthday at Big Mike’s, they will invite all of the guests from Mount Merrion to join them.

He said making the shock decision to close Michael’s was “very, very emotional”.

He added: “But I must put the business head firmly on, harness the giddy energy we all have and equip Big Mike’s with its true potential in Blackrock – one team, one dream, one roof.

“We’ll be finishing up in Mount Merrion with immediate effect, leaving on very good terms with everybody.

One person commented: “Very sad, it’s one my favourite places to eat out of in Mount Merrion.”

Another wrote: “The food is delicious, I’ll have to come to Big Mike’s in Blackrock when I get the chance.”
