Final weekend in McCarthy Insurance Group Football Leagues

THE final weekend of the McCarthy Insurance Group Football Leagues has arrived.

Despite Nemo Rangers having already booked their spot in the Division 1 league final, and Ballincollig demoted a month ago, there’s still an awful lot to sort out.

Nemo will still want to finish top and make it six wins on the bounce as they face their neighbours and rivals in Douglas who need a win to secure safety. Brian Collins’ side are a point ahead of second from bottom Carbery Rangers.

It’s a two-way fight to see who finishes in the top two and joins Nemo in the league final. Carrigaline are in the driving seat at the moment as they are a point ahead of Newcestown.

Michael Meaney’s side entertain a Carbery Rangers outfit who simply have to win. The West Cork side occupy the final relegation spot but are a point behind Douglas and Éire Óg. The Rosscarbery based side have been struggling for form since the win over Castlehaven as they have lost the last four matches.

Newcestown were due to travel to Muskerry to take on Cill na Martra this evening who are in mid-table, but the match got called off last night.

Finally from Division 1, Éire Óg welcome reigning Premier SFC winners Castlehaven to Ovens. Paudie Kissane’s charges are a point ahead of Carbery Rangers knowing a win will be enough. A defeat will cause no harm, granted Carbery Rangers fail to beat Carrigaline.

Division 2 is all sorted with Clonakilty and St Michael’s looking forward to a league final while Kiskeam and Clyda Rovers will be moving down.

In Division 3, Kanturk were promoted after getting past Mallow on Monday evening. It means if Castletownbere get just a point away to Macroom this evening, they will pip Mallow and secure the second promotion spot. At the other end, Nemo Rangers second string are down with Aghada favourites to join them.

In Division 4, there is a five-way fight for promotion with Naomh Abán, Iveleary, Boherbue, Glanmire and Aghabullogue all in the mix with the relegation spots sealed with Glanworth and Ilen Rovers demoted.

Buttevant secured promotion out of Division 5 two weeks ago, Adrigole or Kilmurry will join them. The relegation places are still up for grabs with many teams still in the conversation.

Gabriel Rangers and Ballinora have secured their spots in the promotion places in Division 6. St Nick’s and St Michael’s second team have failed to avoid the drop.

Both Canovee and Cullen are in pole position for Division 7 promotion with St Finbarr’s reserves and Ballyhooly in the bottom two positions.
