Fire in Cork city industrial estate contained
A fire at an industrial estate on the northside of Cork city has been brought under control.
The alarm was raised just before 5pm when large plumes of smoke were seen rising from close to the Elis facility on the Old Mallow Road, just outside Blackpool.
The company specialises in renting linen, floor protection, washroom facilities and workwear to a range of businesses in the hospitality, healthcare and private industry sectors.
Some buildings were evacuated and at least four units of Cork City Fire Brigade rushed to the scene, but firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control within minutes.
It’s believed that the fire started in a van parked close to one of the company’s buildings.
Damage was confined to the van and to the outside of a section of a warehouse. The incident will not disrupt the company’s operations. There were no reports of any injuries.
At the same time, firefighters were tasked to respond to two separate cardiac arrest incidents, and a minor housefire, elsewhere in the city.
