Five people subject to deportation orders arrested

Five people have been arrested during an operation targeting people who are living in Ireland illegally and are the subject of deportation orders.

Officers from the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) along with Dublin-based gardaí carried out the operation this morning as part of Operation Fern.

The five people who were subject to deportation orders were arrested in the Dublin area.

All five are currently in custody pending deportation.

Detective Chief Superintendent Aidan Minnock said there had been “significant engagement” with each of those arrested prior to the GNIB receiving the deportation orders, including the offer of a supported voluntary return package to their country of origin.

“Persons subject to deportation orders have declined supported voluntary return and are now illegal in the State,” he said.

“Today’s operation, under Operation Fern, is part of GNIB’s focus to arrest persons subject to deportation orders and who are illegal in the State.”
