In 1903, George and Mary Jane Prescott moved to a chicken farm in Soquel. When they heard that an inn above Soquel was for sale, they decided to become innkeepers. Prescott’s Inn was a family affair, with all the children helping out. In addition to a tennis court and swimming pool, throughout the 1920s and 1930s, the resort also offered horseback riding down to China Beach (now New Brighton State Beach), for swimming and barbecues. In 1939, Linder and Zelda Denton purchased the inn. In 1964, a couple
of years after the historic four-story inn burned down, the Dentons sold the remains of the resort to Elise and Bill Beltram who renamed it Greenwood Lodge. Since the early 1980s, it’s been the Dharma Center called Land of Medicine Buddha. (Prescott Collection – Capitola Historical Museum)
