Food safety warning issued over popular bread item sold in Irish supermarkets

A food safety warning has been issued for batches of a popular bread item which may be ‘unsafe’ for some people to eat.

An Allergen Alert was issued on Tuesday for specific batches of McCloskey’s Crusty Rolls. McCloskey’s is a popular bread brand sold in Irish supermarkets including Dunnes, Tesco and SuperValu, who may have stocked the bakery’s crusty rolls.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland said certain batches of the rolls contain sesame seeds, which are not declared in the list of ingredients. Therefore, they could be unsafe for customers who are allergic or intolerant of sesame seeds.

A spokesperson said: “The above batches of McCloskey’s Crusty Rolls contain sesame seeds which are not declared in the list of ingredients. This may make the batches unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of sesame seeds.”

The affected rolls come in a 100gx5 pack size, and have the best before dates: 28.05.2024; 29.05.2024; 31.05.2024.

Anyone who has implicated rolls at home and who is allergic or intolerant of sesame seeds is advised to not eat them, and return them for a refund.
