THE Director of Public Prosecutions decided that the case against a former bank cashier accused of seven counts of theft where she worked 13 years ago could only be dealt with at district court level if there was a guilty plea to all charges.
Sergeant Aisling Murphy said that otherwise the case would have to proceed by indictment to trial by judge and jury at Cork Circuit Criminal Court. Judge Mary Dorgan said she would accept jurisdiction also on a plea of guilty to the seven charges.
Solicitor Frank Buttimer for defendant, 46-year-old Maeve Joyce of Browningstown Park, Ballinlough, applied for a copy of prosecution evidence for consideration of the matter.
The case was then adjourned until July 16 for consideration of a signed plea of guilty.
All charges relate to various dates in June and July, 2011.
The first count states that at Bank of Ireland, on Bridge Street, Cork, she did steal property, namely €2,194 cash, the property of the manager of Bank of Ireland.
The next six charges refer to the alleged theft of the following amounts: €450, €1,000, €2,674, €1,500, €1,784 and €4,500.
