Former NBA player hosts basketball camp in New Britain for a second year
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH) — A basketball camp with a former NBA player began in New Britain on Monday.
Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf played in the NBA for nine years with the Denver Nuggets, Sacramento Kings and Vancouver Grizzlies. This is the second year that M-Pact Mentoring Inc. has hosted the camp with the veteran player.
“What we wanna do is just have the kids get better, have a great experience and just [have] good development, ball handling, defensive, attitude, and, you know, be able to be coached and learn it from a former NBA player,” Ashon “Chewy” Avent, someone involved in the camp, said.
Campers can learn skills training, career exploration and personal development. We’ve heard that Abdul-Rauf will be at the camp on Tuesday.
The week-long program is being held at New Britain High School. Registration costs $200.
